Fire in Hamburg

Wed Dec 18 20:50:51 CET 2024 Timsen

On Decc 18, 2024, at 2.25 p.m. the Hamburg fire brigade was alerted to a fire on the 'Linah' in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. As it was initially assumed that several people were injured, a large contingent was mobilized to the scene at the Aue main dike, including several boats and emergency vehicles and around 70 rescue forces. Initial fire fighting with a jet pipe was initiated. In order to have additional emergency personnel available, the the alarm level was raised to to "Fire 2" and additional personnel requested. A power distributor in the engine room on board the vessel was on fire. The emergency services initially concentrated on extinguishing the fire in the control cabinet. The cable fire was quickly brought under control using an extinguishing pipe. At the same time, the firefighters carefully examined the engine room for further embers. This work and the ventilation of the area lasted until 3:31 p.m. The fireboat "Branddirektor Westphal" was also used during the operation to ensure an adequate supply of extinguishing water. Traffic on the Highway 7 was timewise hampered. Reports with photos: https://www.mopo.de/hamburg/polizei/grossalarm-auf-der-elbe-binnenschiff-in-finkenwerder-in-brand/
