Collision near Sachsenhagen
On March 25, 2020, at 1.50 p.m. the Polish 'Navigare I', 917 ts (EU-No.: 08348114), enroute from Minden to Szczecin, was in collision with the'Liberty', which was approaching from Lingen on the Mittelland Canal at Stadthagen in te Schaumburg municipality. The police, volunteer fire brigade and water authority attended with a fire boat and carried out inspections of the hulls in the Niewage port in Niederwöhren. Fortunately none of the ships was breached and no pollution occurred. The Polish master of the 'Navigare I' stated his ship had suffereed a technical failure. During the interrogations the police officers remarked a smell of alcohol, and a blood sample was taken which showed 0,5 per thousand alcohol, and an investigation was launched. Ship traffic on the canal was hampered. Both ships were banned from sailing and berthed in Sachsenhagen. The 'Navigare I' left the wharf on March 26 at 9 p.m. and berthed in Dorsten on March 28, enroute to Szczecin. The 'Liberty' sailed from Sachsenhagen on MArch 28 at 7 a.m., bound to Lingen.
