COSCO ship in Singapore collision scrapped for over $6M

Mon Mar 31 12:19:06 CEST 2014 arnekiel

COSCO has sold a ship that was damaged in a collision in Singapore for demolition, fetching $6,484,140. Ship brokers told IHS Maritime that the 3,764teu ship sold at $341/lt ldt for break-up in China. The price is higher than the $310/lt ldt average price being offered for non-tankers, due to the large light displacement tonnage of the ship. The ship is of 19,000 ldt. In February, the Chinese state-owned shipping company called for tenders to buy the 1994-built Fei He for break-up. Fei He sustained damaged bunker tanks after colliding with the Cido Shipping-owned chemical tanker Lime Galaxy off Jurong Island on the evening of 29 January. No one was injured in the incident and the oil spill resulting from this collision is almost cleaned up. In a notice on its website, COSCO said it wanted to demolish Fei He as the ship sustained damage to its sixth and seventh ballast water tanks on the port side and its sixth bunker tank. Tue Feb 04 09:27:41 CET 2014 Timsen

After the collision of the "Fei He" with the "Lime Galaxy" on Jan 29 at 6.35 p.m., the container ship of COSCON which had been sailing to Singapore from Tanjung Pelepas remained at anchor at the entrance of the Sinki Fairway. The ship was damaged at the portside hull which had resulted in some spillage of bunker fuel. The crew of the "Fei He" had reported the spill to the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore immediately, and an Emergency Response Plan was activated. With assistance of the MPA, the spillage was brought under control. No further spillage of fuel was observed, the fairway was unaffected and there were no reports of injuries nor cargo damage. The "Fei He" was in a stable condition. An investigation. into the accident was launched in which COSCON promised to fully cooperate with the MPA to settle the subsequent matter. The "Lime Galaxy" has left the Singapore area and was underway to Anping with an ETA of Feb 6 now. Photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/33438735@N08/12265798013/
