Broken cylinder disabled ferry
In the morning of May 28, 2018, the "Lemwerder II" suffered a cylinder, with which the hydraulics of the ferry ramp was served. The ship had to be taken out of service, and because now only one ferry was left between Vegesack and Lemwerder, there were traffic jams and waiting times on both sides of the Weser. The amount of damage to the "Lemwerder II" was still unclear. The ferry berthed at the Fassmer shipyard, where it was to be lifted out of the water by a crane.
Ferry repair delayed as hydraulic cylinders fell from pallet
The repair of the "Lemwerder 2" was delayed after damaged hydraulic cylinders on their way back to the ship from a their manufacturer in Schleswig Holstein fell from a pallet in Motzen and were damaged in a way that they could not be installed again. The planned return to service on July 2 was thus impossible. Technicinas of the builders in Tangermünde had traced an electronic component of the flap control as the cause of the previous ramp failure. Repair costs were estimated to be around 50000 Euro. Faulty electronic caused failure
On June 21 technicians found the fault which disabled the "Lemwerder II" at the Fassmer-Yard. An electronic issue at the controlling of the ramp was faulty and has to be replaced. Experts of the SET Yard in Tangermünde, which had built the ship, had been called to detect the fault. The damage is several thousand Euro, and the ferry will be out of service until at least start of July. The 1967-built ferry "Lemwerder“ remains in service on the Weser in the meantime.
