Some debris and a small oil strip discovered
In the afternoon of Jan 18 the Norwegian Coastguard inspected the area where the "Leif Roald» was wrecked with a helicopter. A small strip of oil stretching over one kilometer which was dissipating fast, and some debris were found where the fishing vessel went down at the Braken reef northwest of Averøy. Some of the floating debris was taken up by the Coast Guard, while the rest is the company's responsibility. There was no danger of contamination while it was estimated that the amount of oil could have been between 100 and 120 liters. It was not known how deep wreck was lying. Wrecked vessel disappeared from reef
Nothing was left to see of the "Leif Roald" on Braken reef off Hoonningsøya at Averøy in the morning of Jan 18, nor any wreckage. The Coastguard sent a plane from Bergen over the area in the foremidday to checked whether there was a pollution in the sea. The crew was to be questioned only on Jan 19. Nine recovered from grounded vessel
The "Leif Roald - F-214-M" ran aground at Braken west of Hestskjæret.in the evening of Jan 17, 2015, at 9.30 p.m. The reef was near Honningsøya in the Averøy municipality, west of Kristiansund. The vessel was breached and suffered water ingress. The crew of nine issued a Mayday and was rescued by the lifeboats "Erik Bye", which recovered one Norwegian and two Polish fisher, and the "Fosna Poseidon". The "Leif Roald" listed around 45 degrees when the lifeboat arrived. All jumped into the sea and managed to get aboard rafts. Meanwhile the fishing boat rolled around and lay bottom up while the crew was still being recovered. An air ambulance from Ålesund and a Sea King helicopter were also dispathed. The crew was safely aboard the two vessels at 10.34 p.m., taken to Vestbase and from there to the hospital in Kristiansund in the night. A Hurtigruten ferry and a supply boat were also on standby.
