Eimskip offices searched for suspicion of illegal hazardous waste export
The Icelandic Public Prosecutor's Office has been granted permission to search offices belonging to the Icelandic shipping company Eimskip, in order to search for documents that can shed light on the sale of the two container vessels 'Goðafoss' and 'Laxfoss' in 2019. Both were sold to the cash buyer GMS and then towed to the Malwi Ship Breaking and Gohilwad Ship Breaking shipyards in India. The Icelandic prosecution believes that the sale may be a violation of the rules for the export of hazardous waste. The penalty can be a fine of up to 25 million Icelandic crowns.
