Steel loaden barge was in danger of cracking
The "Libelle" ran aground at the crab creek on the Easter Scheldt off Sint-Philipsland around midnight on Mar 27, 2012. The barge was loaded with 2200 tons of steel slag. Multraship from Terneuzen quickly responded with the tug "Zephyrus", as well as tugs of Polderman from Hansweert. The salvors laid out oil booms around the ship, and the crane vessel "Rijos" was called from Yerseke as the ship was in danger of breaking up during low tide. Rijkswaterstraat sent the patrol boats "RWS 75" and "RWS 22". The "Libelle" was refloated on Mar 28 at 6 a.m. after some 100 tons of the cargo had been lightered. 15 minutes later, the vessel was moored at the quayside in the port of Sint-Philipsland.
