Ferry sank fishing boat

The KMP 'Laskar Pelangi' was in collision with a fishing boat in Balikpapan Waters on Jan 26, 2020, while heading to Mamuju - Kariangau Balikpapan at 09:10 a.m. The fishing boat was destroyed and sank, but the skipper was rescued by the ferry crew. The SAR office East Kalimantan Search was notified and sent the Balasarapan Basarnas team to the scene for investigations. The fishing boat had suffered an engine failure before the accident and was disabled. The 'Laskar Pelangi' in vain tried to avoid a collision by reducing speed and trying to change the course of the ship. The fisherman was taken to the port of Kariangau.
