Lifeboat came to the rescue of a yacht crew after hit and run accident
An unknown cargo ship collided with a sailboat northwest of Skagen in the night of March 31, 2023. The sailboat's mast broke in the collision, which also tore a three-meter-long gash in the hull. A rescue vessel from Skagen sailed to the rescue and brought the crew to safety after receiving an alarm call at 2:33 a.m. from a cargo ship that was next to the sailing ship that had run aground and was unable to call for help because the antenna for the ship's radio was in the broken mast. The rescue station sent a fast boat to the position, followed by the 'Lars Kruse'. They put two men aboard who got an overview of the situation. It turned out that the mast could not stay put as it stuck deep under the boat. The 'Lars Kruse' and could cut the wires that held the mast. When the mast was cut free and it had gone to the bottom, the yacht could be towed to Skagen. Contrary to the ship that stayed at the casualty until help arrived, the ship that hit the sailing vessel left the scene without stopping. Report with photos: https://maritimedanmark.dk/?Id=43959
