Tow to Cherbourg after total engine breakdown

Fri Jan 06 09:49:38 CET 2012 Timsen

On Jan 5 at 2.15. p.m. the "Federal Miramichi" was 12.8 miles NW of Guernsey with the tug "Hellas" (IMO: 7419690) in attendance which left her salvage station position in Torbay in the afternoon of Jan 4 after receiving the call. Due to the total breakdown of the propulsion system of the ship it was impossible to carry out repairs. In the afternoon of Jan 5 the "Abeille Bourbon" took over as the "Hellas" was unable to connect in winds East-Northeast with 40 knots and gusts of 45 knots, and the convoy finally arrived at the port of Cherbourg late morning of Jan 6. The ship with its crew of 21, which came from St. Petersburg and was destined for Paranagua carried 22900 tons of urea and 750 tons of fuel and 20 tonnes of diesel.
