Riddle of empty yacht found by Nordic Nora solved
On Jan 18, 2015, the "Nordic Nora" enroute from Rotterdam to Le Havre observed a capsized boat 41 miles west of Hoek van Holland and raised alarm at 5.20 p.m. The Dutch Coastguard alerted the KNRM lifeboat "Jeanine Parqui" from Hook of Holland and the NHV SAR helicopter of the Maasvlakte. The "Nordic Nora" remained on the spot until the NHV SAR helicopter arrived at 6.20 p.m. A rescue swimmer investigated the 6-m-sailboat and found it to be empty. While the helicopter kept a lookout for persons in the sea the Coastguard liaised with Belgian and English colleagues regarding a missing boat. The "Jeanine Parqui" arrived at 8 p.m. At 8:45 p.m. a message from France arrived that a sailboat with the registration CH502994 has drifted away on Jan 9 from Cherbourg. Fortunately there were no missing persons. KNRM rescuers righted the boat and then pumped it out. The lifeboat then towed it to Hoek van Holland where it was arrived on Jan 19 at 01.00 a.m. Dutch report with photo: http://www.knrm.nl/waar-wij-zijn/reddingstations/hoek-van-holland/reddingrapporten/omgeslagen-boot-41-mijl-west-van-hoek-van-holland-64a4b4b1ac
