Gutted superyacht suggested as dive wreck

Fri Aug 09 12:40:36 CEST 2019 Timsen

24 hours after the fire broke out aboard the "Lady D", it was finally burnt down in the morning of Aug 8. Thhe police and other specialists began to establish the causes of the blaze. The ‘Lady D’ as it burnt out of control in the morning of Aug 7, was towed away from the Ao Po Grand Marina. The burning superyacht was cut adrift and towed offshore to Koh Thanan, near Ao Po, where it ran aground. The yacht was completely gutted by the fire and surrounded by oil booms, as it still contained 150 tons of fuel. The yacht was thought to be beyond repair. It was suggested the ‘Lady D’, could be a good opportunity for the Tourism Minister to sink it at prime location, such as Koh Racha Yai to be used for recreational diving. All dive boat operators, dive centres and dive instructors would be glad to promote the ‘Lady D Wreck’ and allow diving enthusiasts to dive on the Lady D Wreck for years ahead. Luxury yacht gutted by fire

Wed Aug 07 11:45:31 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Lady D" suffered major damage in a fire which broke out in the Thalang district of Phuket on Aug 7, 2019. She was moored at the far end of the Ao Por Grand Marina pier, making fire fighting efforts difficult. A crew member had in vain to put out the flames using an extinguisher. The fire which started at the stern of the yacht and quickly spread to the upper decks and engulfed the yacht which had to be cut loose and set adrift to prevent the blaze spreading to nearby vessels at the pier. Five fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze. The yacht recently had arrived from Langkawi in Malaysia. . Pontoons were thrown around the yacht to contain any fuel spillage and to keep people away in case of a possible explosion. The authorities planned to tow the yacht to the nearby uninhabited island of Koh Nang in the afternoon for safety reasons.
