Engine failure in English Channel
The "Lady Amalia" suffered an engine failure in the English Channel south of Weymouth on Nov 5, 2018, at 6 p.m., being en route from Belfast to Erith. The ship was carrying 3.450 tonnes of stones and had a crew of six on board. The problem in the starboard turbo charger occurred in position 050 09 31.1 N, 002 35 39.0 W, 25 nautical miles from Portland. The vessel's crew reported that they were facing issues with fitting the turbo. After the crew failed to fix the problem by own means, it was decided to tow her to Cherbourg. The French SAR tug "Abeille Liberté" was tasked, and a tow was established at 3.30 p.m. Both ships arrived in Cherbourg at 11.25 p.m. The "Lady Amalia" left the port of Cherbourg again after repairs on Nov 10 at 10.15 p.m. and berthed in Erith on Nov 12 at 1.10 p.m.
