Water ingress on New Merwede

Wed Feb 06 09:41:57 CET 2019 Timsen

On Feb 5, 2019, at 7.05 p.m. the fire brigade and KNRM Dordrecht were alerted to the Biesbosch Port North on the New Merwede in Werkendam after the "La Fosca", 1257 ts (EU-No.: 06002483), had reported water ingress in the foreship. The ship had sailed from Antwerp in the morning with a cargo of iron on board. The lifeboat "Tjepke Ekkelboom" transported pumps of the fire brigade on board after the barge had berthed in Werkendam. Jointly with Rijkswaterstaat an inspection of the foreship was carried out and hole was discovered above the waterline at the anchor gorge, through which the water had penetrated. After an hour of pumpoing the situation was under control, and the ship shifted to the Beatrix Port in Werkendam for repairs of the damage. No pollution was reported. Grounded barge on Rhine refloated

Mon Sep 16 18:46:16 CEST 2013 Timsen

On Sep 14, 2013, at 4.15 p.m. the "La Fosca" ran aground on the Rhine at river km 502 at the tip of the Rettbergsaue. The ship was enroute from Schweinfurt to Mainz and tried to back into the port when the Speed was reduce to avoid an allision with fairway buoys, causing the ship to get caught by strong currents, so that the bow drifted to port and the ship was pushed perpendicular onto a gravel bar. After several attempts to refloat the ship with two tugs failed, the river authority in Bingen decided that the cargo of 1100 tons rape would have to be lightered in order to reduce the draught. The work was started on Sep 16 with the dredger "Niclas" from Walluf which loaded the cargo onto another barge. In the late afternoon the "La Fosca" was refloated and moved into the industry port of Mainz.
