Trawler disabled off Bjørnøya

Mon Jan 30 10:38:37 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Kvitungen" was disabled at the Hopen deep East of Bjørnøya where she suffered propulsion trouble in the afternoon of Jan 28, 2017. Probably her propeller was fouled by a net. The "Barentshav" of the Norwegian Coastguard was deployed to assist but needed one day to reach the trawler which was 280 nautical miles eastwards. After the delivery of supplies on Bjørnøya the patrol boat set course towards the crab vessel. In the early morning of Jan 29 it reached the "Kvitungen", and towing commenced at 07.30 a.m. towards Båtsfjord in Finnmark where the convoy was estimated to arrive in the morning of Jan 31. While the the weather initially was fine, late in the evening the wind had increased to stiff, strong gales and dense snow flurry later in the day. Fishing vessel wedged against bridge

Tue Dec 23 14:35:05 CET 2014 Timsen

On Dec 23, 2014, at 4 a.m. the "Kvitungen" was wedged against the pillars of the Tromsø Bridge after having suffered engine trouble. The ship was pushed against three of the pillars of the bridge. The lifeboat "Gideon" was quickly on Scene but could not get the ship away. Thus came the tug "Lupus" to help remove the "Kvitungen" from the Bridge. There were 18 people aboard the sealer, no injuries reported. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.nordlys.no/B_t_fast_ved_s_ylene_p__Troms_brua-5-34-54507.html
