Two injured in explosion off Mumbai

Sat Sep 28 09:16:13 CEST 2013 Timsen

On Sep 27, 2013, two Filipino sailors were injured in an explosion on the "Kurobe" in the Arabian Sea around 400 nautical miles off Mumbai. The vessel was sailing from Abu Dhabi to Singapore. After the ship sent a distress call the Coast Guard in Mumbai co-ordinated the rescue operations with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Mumbai. The vessel altered course towards Mumbai to facilitate a medical evacuation. The ship officials were advised to take help of tele-medicine to stabilise the injured crewmen. Battling severe weather conditions in the high seas, a helicopter managed to land on the "Kurobe". While on man was revived on board with the medical assistance, the other failed to revive and was taken to Mumbai in the night for treatment.
