Engine breakdown off Las Palmas

On May 13, 2018, around 11 p.m. the "Kubilai Khan" suffered an engine breakdown 20 miles NE of Punta Sardina and went adrift 29 miles north of Las Palmas, Canary Islands. The ship which was en route from Las Palmas to Flushing, ETA May 20 asked for assistance only the following early morning. The SAR tug "Miguel de Cervantes" (IMO: 9320116) of Salvamento Marítimo was deployed to assist and took the vessel with 18 crew members on board in tow and pulled it back to Las Palmas on May 14 at 10.30 a.m. The "Kubilai Khan" berthed at the Muelle Grande at 9 p.m. assisted by the port tugs "VB Adriatico" and "VB Alboran" of Boluda.
