Collision in Dardanelles
The cargo m/v "Princess Maria" (IMO: 7528556), was in collision with the "Karaağaç" on Oct 19, 2016, at 04.10 a.m. Both vessel were entering the Dardanelles from the Aegean Sea when the "Princess Maria" slammed into the port side of the bulkcarrier while both ships were sailing in the sam direction. The "Princess Maria" was bound from Iskenderun to Kerch, the "Karaağaç" from Suez to Bandirma. Both vessels suffered damages, the "Princess Maria" confirmed bow damage at starboard side. Both vessel were taken to a safe anchorage at Bozcaada in Çanakkale for surveys and investigations. The vessel traffic service dispatched the tug "Kıyı Emniyeti-9" for this purpose.
Bulkcarrier suffered engine trouble
After the "Karaagac" left Chennai on June 1, 2016, bound for Kakinda, it suffered an engine failure shortly after sailing, and was moored on the outer anchorage of Chennai on July 2. The Indian Maritime Authorities requested the owner to move the vessel from the anchorage, finding her a threat to shipping. On June 24 it had ordered the arrest of the bulk carrier for crew wages debts, amounting $59,000, and the vessel’s non seaworthiness. The ship was checked by an ITF inspector and a number of detainable deficiencies were found which seemed to have been rectified since.
