Fire on barge in Riedenburg
On Nov 30, 2017, around 5 p.m. a fire broke out in the foreship of the "Bon Voyage", 1284 ts (EU-No.: 04501350), enroute from Ludwigshafen to Riedenburg, where the cargo of 1.102 mineral fertilizer was to be unloaded. After the Hungarian master had turned around the ship in the foreport of the Riedenburg lock, the crew remarked strong smoke development from the foreship. The two men in vain tried to extinguish the fire, but the smoke was too intense to penetrate the bow thruster engine room. Fire rescue forces from Riedenburg, Otterzhofen, Perletzhofen and Kelheim were alerted and brought the fire under control within short time. Fire brigades from Prunn, Dietfurt and Altmannstein which had been alerted too, could be stood down again. After the fire was out, the engine room was ventilated. The fire brigade found out that electric cables had started to burn. The Main-Donau-Canal was closed for shipping between 5.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The damage was estimated to be in the five-didgit-area. The ship was detained for investigations. Barge grounded on the Danube
In the morning of Sep 20, 2017, around 4 a.m. the "Bon Voyage", 1284 ts (EU-No.: 04501350), ran aground upstream of the Kager lock near Bogen and was breached. The ship continued to Straubing where it berthed at the quay with a list to starboard. The fire rescue was alerted and started pumping an oil-water mixture from the damaged engine room into tank trucks to avoid a sinking of the ship. 25 tons contaminated water were drained. Oil barriers were laid out on the Danube and divers were called to try to patch the leak which succeeded in the afternoon. Only minor oil spills were reported. The ship was carrying a cargo of wheat and had sailed in Passau on Sep 19 at 11 a.m., bound to Nuremberg.
