Maersk Supply sells anchor handler to Karadeniz
Maersk Supply has sold two of its anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels to Karadeniz of Turkey. The sale price for Maersk Puncher (built 1991) and Maersk Provider (built 1992) was not disclosed. Earlier this month, Maersk Supply said it would slash its offshore support vessel (OSV) fleet by up to 20 ships in the coming 18 months due to “unprecedented market conditions”. It also plans to shed up to 400 jobs. “The vast majority of our divested vessels will be recycled or modified by their new owners to compete outside of the OSV market,” Jørn Madsen, CEO of Maersk Supply Service, told Splash last week. Karadeniz has been very active in the sale and purchase market this year, and has bought at least two vessels for conversion into floating power plants. Following the two sales, the Maersk Supply Service fleet now stands at 54 vessels.
