Sinking in South China sea off Luzon, crew rescued
South Korean tug Kosco 202 sent a distress around midnight August 1 2012 from the position 10 nautical miles west of Capones Point in Zambales Province, Luzon, Philippines, South China sea, at 01:05 LT August 2 Manila Coast Guard received a message from Korean CG informing about the accident. Tug was towing an unidentified barge to Samarinda from Shanghai and encountered strong wind and heavy seas. Towline broke, engine room started to take on water and was flooded, 7 Korean crew abandoned the vessel. CG ship was dispatched to the distressed tug from Subic Bay, and rescued Korean crew at around 06:00. CG ship spotted the drifting barge at around 06:30 some two to three nautical miles west of San Antonio, Zambales.
