Grounding off Paranaguá
The "Kona Trader", which had sailed from Portland, Oregon, on Feb 15, 2018 with a cargo of 62.000 tonnes potassium chloride, ran aground on March 15 at 4.30 p.m. when she heading to the Fospar pier in the port of Paranaguá in the Pontal do Sul region. She was stuck 500 meters from the shore for almost 10 hours in the Galheta Canal the accident took place between the buoys 9 and 10, which gives access to the Port of Paranaguá. An initial attempt to refloat the ship with seven tugs failed. At 11 p.m. tugs were on site with the rising tide to pull the ship into deep water again. On March 16 at 1.50 a.m. the bulkcarrier was refloated after the water level was high enough. and anchored in the Bay of Paranaguá, where it was investigated.
