Research vessel assisted distressed yacht crew

Mon Aug 23 09:30:54 CEST 2021 Timsen

On Aug 22, 2021, the 'Komet' assisted a yacht on board of which a crew member was suffering from severe seasickness and hypothermia ion the Outer Weser. The yacht with a crew of two was en route from Heligoland back to the coast. Because the boat could not continue sailing, it anchored outside the fairway. At around 4.25 p.m. the MRCC of the DGzRS in Bremen was alerted. After the distress call, the nearby research vessel launched a dinghy and transferred a crew member to assist. Meanwhile the lifeboat 'Hermann Rudolf Meyer' also arrived from Bremerhaven and launched its daughter boat 'Christian', which took over the patient. They took care of him in the on-board hospital of the lifeboat while he was transported to Bremerhaven at maximum speed. There they handed him over to the shore based rescue service. The dinghy of the "Komet" stayed with the sailing yacht until the lifeboat 'Emil Zimmermann' of the station Fedderwardersiel had arrived and towed the boat towards Bremerhaven until the 'Hermann Rudolf Meyer' had returned and took over. The BSH survey ship “Komet” was the first ship on site.
