Truck on ferry caught fire
On Dec 30, 2024, a fire broke out on one of the trucks aboard the KMP 'Jambo VIII' in pos. 08° 0.400' S 114° 25.900' E, just in front of the Gilimanuk Ferry Port. The crew of the vessel, which was carrying 22 four-wheeled vehicles, seven motorcycles, and 42 passengers as well as 14 crew members, managed to handle the incident without casualties, thanks to the swift actions taken. The ship had, departed from Pier MB II of the Ketapang Ferry Port on Dec 30 at 11:14 p.m. WITA, en route to the Gilimanuk Ferry Port. At 11:50 p.m., while waiting for its docking schedule at the Pier MB II Gilimanuk, a box truck caught fire. The crew immediately took action to extinguish the fire using the ship’s hydrant system. The captain also reported the incident to the Gilimanuk Port Authority (BPTD Bali), requesting priority docking at Pier MB I to facilitate the evacuation of the burning truck. The removal of the burning truck was carried out at 12:15 a.m. on Dec 31. The truck was moved out of the port area to prevent further damage or casualties. Fire suppression and cooling efforts continued using hydrants owned by the Gilimanuk Port. By 12:30 a.m.,, the fire was completely extinguished. The ferry was now in a safe condition and ready to resume operations.
