Collision on Barito River
In the night of June 22, 2021, the 'Kirana IX' was in collision with the tug 'Bomas Gold' on the Barito River, South Kalimantan, and suffered a gap in the bow with an estimated diameter of approximately 30 to 60 centimeters. Neither the ship nor its passengers were endangered as the damage was above the water line. The ferry was able to safely continue the journey and safely docked at the Trisakti Port pier in Banjarmasin. The Banjarmasin SAR Office monitored the ferry until its arrival. Eight died following panic caused by a small fire
On Sep 27, 2011, the "Kirana IX" caught fire while docked in Surabaya, Java. The ferry had over 500 passengers on board when a truck overheated and caught fire. The Passengers on board panicked and stampeded towards the small exit gate while others jumped overboard into the water. The crew in vain attempted to calm the passengers, but eight people perished in the panic and were trampled. Many passengers were taken to hospital. The damage to the "Kirana IX" was limited to the truck and a small section of the vessel’s deck. The crew was able to quickly extinguish the blaze before any serious damage occurred.
