Family refused compensation offer
The family of a crew member which died in the collision of the 'Mitra Jaya XIX' with the 'Tanto Bersinar' in the waters off Karang Jamuang in Gresik on Jan 23, refused the offer of the shipping company of an additional compensation of 10 million Rupiah to the victims' family in addition to the government insurance provided by BPJS Kesehatan (Healthcare and Social Security Agency) of 150 million Rupiah.
Tug found bottom up
After the collision with the 'Tantro Bersinar', the 'Mitra Jaya XIX' was located west of Surabaya on Jan 23 and pulled to the mainland in Ketapang Daya, Sampang Regency, East Java. The wreck was found by the SAR team in the afternoon bottom up in Madura waters five miles from the accident site near Karang Jamuang Island. The barge 'Makmur Abadi V', which had a torn hull, was secured at the shore closest to the crash site. The 'Tanto Bersinar' has been brought to the Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya. The tug with the barge had sailed from Sungai Puting Port, South Kalimantan, on Jan 11, carrying a cargo of coal bound to Gresik. The five missing crew members of the tug were not yet found. The SAR team dispatched eight teams of divers to search for the missing crew members.
Freighter sank tug - five missing
The 'Tanto Bersinar' was in ollision with the tug 'Mitra Jaya XIX' (MMSI: 525500009), which was towing an oil barge with palm oil, on Jan 23, 2021, at 03.15 WIB (UTC +7) off the port of Gresik at the outer anchorage in the Java sea, Surabaya. The tug which had a crew of eight on board sank. Three crew members were rescued, five remained missing. The barge was heavily damaged, developed a list and was leaking its cargo. The container ship suffered slight damages, returned to Gresik and was moored at Surabay anchorage in pos. 07° 5.87' N 112° 39.96' E.
