Passenger died in allision

Wed Mar 26 11:12:51 CET 2025 Timsen

On March 19, 2025, at 2.40 p.m. WITA, the 'Malindo Express 2' encountered technical difficulties with its control system while docking at the Tunon Taka Nunukan Port. As a result, the ship lost control and allided with the pier, causing multiple injuries among crew members, passengers, and dock workers from the Cargo Handling Workers (TKBM) union. The incident resulted in one fatality, the passenger H. Mustamin, who passed away at RSUD Nunukan. and three injured, who were receiving treatment at RSUD Nunukan), the passenger Joy Tappi, the crew member Anwar, and the dock worker Mansur. The ship had departed from Tawau Port on March 19 en route to the Tunon Taka Nunukan Port with 54 passengers on board. Preliminary findings indicated that the accident was caused by a failure in the ship’s forward-reverse throttle, leading to a malfunction in the vessel’s control system. This issue prevented the ship from maneuvering properly while approaching the dock, ultimately causing the allision with the Tunon Taka Nunukan Port facility. The relevant authorities were conducting a further investigation into the accident.
