Salvage hampered by monsoon
The salvage of the 'Dharma Rucitra 3' has been hampered due to bad weather conditions. Salvors have finished installing the equipment needed to refloat the vessel such as airbags on both sides of the vessel to stabilize it. The goal was to refloat the vessel during low tide and if successful its owners will tow it to Surabaya for repairs. On June 30 the removal of cargo has been completed by 20 divers. On July 9 the ferry has been successfully stabilized and refloated. The ship was successfully towed to Surabaya for repairs, after it was declared stable by inspectors on July 10. The Indonesian Classification Bureau had also checked the condition of the ship.
Salvage of cargo underway
As of Juen 26, 32 trucks, cars and motorbikes were removed from the wreck of the 'Dharma Rucitra 3'. Huge waves and strong winds have been making the salvage operations difficult. There were about eight units of tronton, 10 large trucks, three medium trucks, three small trucks, three small vehicles and eight motorbikes on board among other cargo including corn. Once, all cargo has been removed, the vessel will be refloated and taken to the middle of the Lombok Strait.

The removal of vehicles from the submerged car deck was prioritized. Technicians and special equipment needed have meanwhile arrived from Surabaya. The whole salvage operation may take up to three weeks. Salvors planned to make the wreck with lifting bags buoyant again.
