Coast Guard medevacs man from container ship off Hatteras
A man aboard a container ship off Cape Hatteras had to be medevaced to safety Thursday, August 13. The Coast Guard says the 29-year-old Romanian man was suffering symptoms of appendicitis. He was on the Portuguese container ship "Maersk Kleven". A MH-60 Jayhawk from Elizabeth City met the ship and hoisted the man to the helicopter. They flew him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was reported in stable condition. The ship continued its trek to Antwerp, Belgium. This is the second person hoisted from a big ship off Hatteras in less than a week. Last Friday, a crewmember of a vehicle carrier was medevaced with heart complications.
