Ferry allided with wharf
In the evening of Aug 7, 2016, the "Kjella", formerly named "Godfjord", allided ith the wharf in Forvik in Vevelstad, Helgeland. At /.30 p.m. the "Kjella" suffered engine failure upon the arrival at Forvik. When the captain noticed the trouble, he dropped the anchor, and the ferry steered clear of the new ferry port, but slammed into the old one with the bow. None of the 18 passengers and five crew members on board the ferry wwere injured. The passengers were taken to shore aboard another ferry. The lifeboat "Skuld" also headed to Forvik where the "Kjella" was now moored at the old ferry port. From the "Skuld" divers were sent down who checked the hull for damage. Thereafter the ferry was unloaded so she could be towed to the slip in Sandnessjøen for further investigations into the extent of damage on the ferry. Repair of former Godfjord takes longer than anticipated
Repairs of the "Godfjord", now renamed "Kjella", have prove to be more extensive than assumed and the return of the ferry to service was delayed. The ship is still on the slip in Sandnessjøen and was scheduled to get back in the Tjøtta-Forvik run this week. But repairs of the rudder gear were more extensive than expected because of saltwater penetration. The gear was under repair in Denmark, and will now return so that the "Kjella" should be back in April. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.hblad.no/nyheter/mf-kjella-er-forsinket/s/5-23-27549
