Kitty C collides with Ferry Swinemünde at ferry-point Fisherhütte in Kiel-Canal
A cargo ship has got out of control in the Kiel Canal and forcefully rammed a ferry. People were not injured in the accident near Brunsbüttel, said a spokesman of the water police. The 100 meter long cargo vessel "Kitty C." was reported to be directly on the pier of ferry station Fischerhütte. At the last second the crew of the "Swinemünde" save their lives with a jump ashore. The force of the collision was so strong that the bridge of the ferry house was bent to the side. A number of mounting piles at the jetty was pressed with lighting under the ferry. The ferry had been badly damaged and went to repair in the shipyard. The cargo ship had only light damage above the water line and was able to continue on. Cause of the accident was human error, according to initial investigations.
