Damaged ship broken up in Aliaga

Thu Mar 28 19:25:10 CET 2019 Timsen

As permanent repairs of the fire damage on the "Kilic 1" could not be carried out due to expensive repair budget, the vessel was towed from Gytheio to Aliaga breakers, where it entered early in March 2019. Subsequently, the recycling process commenced upon completion of environmental permission formalities.

Fire off Cape Tainaros

Wed Nov 21 09:39:00 CET 2018 Timsen

On Nov 20 2018, at 11.40 p.m.a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Kilic 1" which was underway from Tunisia to Güllük. The 11 Turkish crew members had to abandon ship 8.3 nautical miles south of Cape Tainaros and were rescued by the cruise ship "Costa Luminosa”, which was enroute from Piraeus to Kataklon, and an additional ship in adverse weather conditions, with 30-knot winds and 2-meter waves. The crew was good at its health. The unladen fish carrier had 20 tons of diesel fuel in its tanks. The fire brigades in Piraeus and in Crete were alerted. A Hellenic Navy helicopter as well as six port launches, firefighting and Coastguard boats were underway to the incident scene. The tug “Agios Nikolaos” was cooling the hull from outside. No pollution was reported so far. The fire was extinguished in the night of Nov 21, and the ship was towed to Gytheion where it was safely moored.
