Patrol boat saved 341 people in Mediterranean

The "KBV 002 - Triton" has saved 341 people from two inflatables and a wooden boat on June 25. Another 232 migrants have been received from a warship. The "Triton" was now heading to Italy with 573 people aboard and the bodies of two deceased migrants. The alarm of a rubber boat in distress came via the MRCC rescue center in Rome just before 7 a.m. The "KBV 002" went directly to the specified position, but more boats in distress were detected andthe " KBV 002" had to make several changes in the course of the morning. Shortly after lunch, two rubber boats with a total of 265 people on board received assistance. One of the inflatables had a failed engine and drifted smoothly. Gasoline had leaked into the boat, and several of the people who were at the bottom of it, had chemical burns. The third sea rescue began about an hour later about 40 nautical miles north of Libya's coast from a wooden boat with 78 people aboard, among them many children and women. The last effort was made in the evening when 232 people rescued by a Spanish warship were taken on board the "KBV 002". Among these were two deceased and several injured. The cause of death has not yet been established and healthcare professionals were workomg with other staff to provide care to the injured until reaching the shore where the migrants were handed over to Italian authorities and NGOs for nursing, identification and registration. 650 migrants rescued

On June 16 the "Triton - KBV 002" carried out five maritime rescue operations in the southern Mediterranean Sea. After extensive rescue work, the ship was heading for Italy with 650 migrants aboard. The alarm came via the MRCC rescue center in Rome just before 08:00 a.m. On the way to the site a rubber boat was discovered with migrants of an observant crew member on the bridge. They were without food, water or fuel. Many did not have life jackets and the boat were of poor quality. A total of 127 migrants were rescued and taken on board the "KBV 002" for registration. Then they were given the opportunity to go to the bathroom and drink fresh water. After the first effort was completed, the "KBV 002" could resume to the original maritime rescue alarm and begin the rescue work on-site. Then another rubber boat sailed in the area. In total there were three boats with migrants in distress. The crew prioritized the condition of the boats and the people inside. The first rescue occurred from a rubber boat in bad condition and where there were many toddlers on board. The rescue work was completed by embarking a further 126 migrants rescued by two ships. Triton reached Catania with 358 migrants aboard

The "Triton - KBV 002" has assisted in three maritime rescue operations in the southern Mediterranean during June 10 and the night to June 11. The vessel headed to Catannia with 358 migrants aboard. On June 10 at 1 p.m. the MRCC in Rome alerted the ship to a rubber boat in in distress. Several units were sent to the site, and when the patrol boat arrived, the rescue operation already had ended. The castaways were transferred to the Swedish ship which had the capacity to take care of them on board. Early on June 11, further migrants were rescued to the "Triton" from an Italian Coastguard vessel. Of the 358 migrants, several were injured and eight died. The cause of death has not yet been established and healthcare professionals were working with other staff to provide the injured were cared for until reaching the Molo die Levante Eastern Catania Cruise/Cargo Terminal in the morning of June 12. The migrants were handed over to Italian authorities and NGOs for nursing and registration.
