Medevac off Cold Bay
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced a fisherman from the "Katie Ann" reportedly suffering from symptoms of intestinal bleeding more than 110 miles northwest of Cold Bay on Apr 25, 2013. Coast Guard 17th District Command Center watchstanders received a call at 2:28 p.m. requesting medical assistance for the crewmember. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter "Rush" homeported in Honolulu was diverted toward the fishing vessel to reduce the flight distance for the helicopter crew. A helicopter crew, deployed aboard the "Rush", arrived on scene with the fishing vessel and safely hoisted the 52-year-old crewmember. He was transferred him to commercial medical services in Cold Bay for further transport to Anchorage and additional medical care. The fisherman was reported in stable condition at the time of the transfer in Cold Bay.
