Cog suffered engine failure

Thu May 24 11:47:16 CEST 2018 Timsen

Two weeks after the "Kamper Kogge" set course for a two-month tour, she was back in her home port already on May 19, 2018. After a journey to Blankenberge, the trip was continued to Germany with a cargo from Kampen, Doesburg and Deventer on board that was donated by these cities for promotion. Because of a northern wind that would last all week, it was not possible to sail on this route, instead the auxiliary engines were used. Just before the piers at IJmuiden the starboard engine unfortunately failed. But the ship and its crew could safely reach the port of IJmuiden. The cause of the failure was investigated with support of the local KNRM workshop. It soon became clear that the damage could not be quickly fixed due to problems with the cooling water pump. It appeared that several gaskets had leaked and there was corrosion damage. It was decided to travel back to Kampen, arriving there in the afternoon of May 19. The starboard engine was sent to repairs to Emmeloord, and although the call at Bremerhaven had to be skipped, there was hope to visit the International Hanseatic Days in Rostock. In 1,5 weeks the foundation hoped to provide more clarity about the issue. Dutch report with photos: https://kampen.online/kamper-kogge-zet-alle-zeilen-bij-na-motorpech/
