Search for missing crew members continued at the shoreline

The search for the seven still missing crew members of the 'Kafkametler' was still held by the authorities. An operation has started for the wreck to be removed by breaking it and searching parts which could not yet be reached . The SAR operations in the sea area has been completed. The search was continued along the shoreline by AFAD, Coastguard and Military Police.

Wreck broke into four pieces

Turkish Navy and Coastal Safety special underwater SAR teams have descended to the sinking site of the 'Kafkametler' on Dec 4. Various underwater surveys and divers inspection were conducted. The vessel was found broken up into four sections at the Eregli breakwater. Four bodies were found on board, removed, and transferred to the local hospital morgue for autopsy.

Five bodies recovered

The dead bodies of five of the 12 crew members of the 'Kafkametler' were found on Dec 1. The search for the missing seven crew members has been continuing for 14 days. In order to reach the missing sailors, AFAD, Coast Guard Command, Coastal Police, TAF's SAT commandos, and teams affiliated with the Naval Forces Command continued their search efforts by air, land and sea. The TCG 'Akın', which has debris removal and submarine rescue capabilities, was also involved in the work. More than 70 divers continued their search in and around the wreck.
