Grounding off Dives-sur-Mer
On Dec 7, 2019, at 08:10 a.m. the CROSS Jobourg was alerted by the 'Jo Of Ladram' which had stranded on a sandbank 650 meters east of the entrance to the port of Dives-sur-Mer. The ship requests assistance, and the CROSS hired two lifeboats of the SNSM, the 'SNS 091 - Saint Anne des Flots' and 'SNS 239 - Saint Sauveur II' from Dives-sur-Mer to try to refloat the ship which was no success because of the ebb tide. At noon the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea sent a formal notice to the owner of the ship to implement all means to salvage it. An evaluation and intervention team (IEE) was at the same time alerted by the maritime prefecture. At 2 p.m. the IEE boarded a Cayman Navy helicopter of the Navy base in Maupertus which started its investigations on site at 2:45 p.m. and remained aboard the ship for the duration of the salvage operation. At 3:10 p.m., the port tug 'Caen 5' from Caen-Ouistreham was deployed and sailed at 4:25 p.m. The lifeboat 'SNSM 161 - Président Pierre Huby' from Le Havre was also engaged to replace the tugboat when needed, as well as the 'SNSM 091' and 'SNSM 614' from Ouistreham' and 'SNSM 239' from Dives-sur-Mer'. At 7 p.m. the 'Jo Of Ladram' was refloated by the 'Caen 5' and escorted by the 'SNSM 161 - Le Havre' to the port of Le Havre where the IEE was dropped off. An investigation was underway to determine the circumstances of the grounding. Broken down fishing boat towed in demanding conditions
Two volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews faced difficult conditions on Dec 19, 2013, when they worked to bring home the "Joy of Ladram" off The Lizard. The ship had suffered gear box failure 33 miles due south of Lizard Point. She was initially helped by The Lizard RNLI lifeboat team who then passed the tow on to the Penlee crew, who took her in to Newlyn. The Lizard volunteers were the first to respond to their pagers at 4.15 p.m. Within 90 minutes they had found the boat, arriving on Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Rose, and took the Newlyn-based gill netter in tow. Conditions were demanding, with a southerly wind of force six to seven. The team from Penlee lifeboat station, onboard the "Ivan Ellen" launched at 9 p.m., meeting up with The Lizard lifeboat just after 10 p.m. four miles south west of Lizard Point. The tow was transferred and the Penlee team headed back to Newlyn, towing the fishing vessel, arriving at 1 a.m.
