Johann saved yacht crew

Thu Jul 09 12:20:53 CEST 2020 Timsen

On July 08, 2020, at 2:16 p.m., the CROSS Etel was alerted by a 406 MHZ distress beacon 170 nautical miles southwest of the tip of Penmarc'h belonging to the British yacht 'Lady Nirvana' (MMSI:232026455) whose two crew members were no longer able to ensure their navigation alone. A Falcon 50 aircraft of the French Navy, which was in operation for surveillance tasks, also picked up this distress signal. It immediately diverted to the area, in order to contact the crew and relay communications with the CROSS Etel and the Center de Consultation Médicale Maritime (CCMM). The two crew members did not require a medical evacuation but still wished to be disembarked as soon as possible. The CROSS Etel issues the emergency message "SafeSeaNet", following which the 'Johann', enroute from Ferrol to Muuga, diverted. At 4:20 p.m., te vessel took the two boaters on board, before heading for Brest where the yacht had departed on July 7. An urgent notice to mariners was issued in regard of the abandoned yacht.
