On Apr 9, 2011, at 6:14 a.m. the "Atlantic" radioed to have a fire on board 50 miles west of Værøy off the Lofoten Islands. The crew of 15 Norwegians was not injured in the fire. The Rescue Coordination Center prepared a special group from the fire department in Bodø to be sent on board Sea King helicopter to takle the fire. But the crew managed to extinguish the fire before the helicopter took off. The "Atlantic" has lost all engine power. The Coast Guard sent the "Barents Sea" to take the "Atlantic" in tow, ETA 12.30 a.m. The "Atlantic" was adrift in waves of five metees height.It was estimated that the towwould reach the Norwegian coast lat in the night. It was not yet clear to which port the vessel would be towed.
