Bulkcarrier will have to be lightered
The sulphur loaded "Jian Qiang" will have to be lightered to be refloated after she ran aground while transiting outbound from Neches Industrial Park. The owners continued to coordinate with local partners to get the resources on scene as weather permitted. Once the resources are in place they will begin lightering the ship to make it easier to refloat. Once the vessel was free, an underwater survey was to be conducted to verify no damage to the hull. “The vessel was stable and remained outside of the channel, approximately one mile from buoys 33 and 34, and there was no danger to vessel traffic. Operations continued to progress in accordance with the salvage plan in place. The Coast Guard continued to investigate the incident.
