Grounding off Horumersiel
In the late afternoon of Aug 19, 2016, the "Jens Albrecht" ran aground off the approach to the port of Horumersiel. The lifeboat "Baltrum" of the DGzRS station Horumersiel was called and tried in vain to pull the ship back into the fairway. The attempt failed due to the outgoing tide. Shoprt bevore midnight the lifeboat returned with the rising tide and managed to pull the ship, which did not have passengers on board, off at 12.30 a.m. The "Jens Albrecht" then returned to Hooksiel. Grounding near Mellum
In the afternoon of July 24, 2014, the "Jens Albrecht" ran aground near the island Mellum during a leisure cruise during the receding tide. The ship had on board 170 passengers. The master immediately contacted the MRCC Bremen of the DGzRS. Six adults and one child were taken off due to health problems by the lifeboat "Vormann Steffens" of the DGzRS-station Hooksiel and taken to shore. The lifeboat "Baltrum" of the DGzRS-station Horumersiel and a boat of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) remained on standby, until the "Jens Albrecht" could be refloated with assistance of the "Baltrum" around 8 p.m. and returned to Hooksiel.
Disabled passenger ship towed to Hooksiel
On Mar 28, 2013, the "Jens Albrecht" suffered a main engine failure enroute to Hooksiel off Spiekeroog. The ship went adrift in eastern winds of 6 beaufort and snow showers. Also the auxiliary engine did not run properly, and the crew, which feared to run aground off Spiekeroog in case of a complete failure called the MRCC Bremen. The lifeboat "Wilma Sikorski" was dispatched from the DGzRS-station Wangerooge and reached the casualty around 10.20 p.m. The "Jens Albrecht" was fighting against the strong wind with ist auxiliary engine and got ahead with less than four knots. The lifeboat escorted the casualty, while also the lifeboat "Vormann Steffens" of the DGzRS-station Hooksiel headed towards the scene. At 11 p.m. it took the passengers ship in tow off Wangerooge and pulled it to Hooksiel where it was safely berthed on Mar 29 at 1 a.m.
