Medevac off Port Elizabeth
On Sep 12, 2014, a patient was medevaced from the "Porto Leone" off Port Elizabeth. At 9.45 p.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew was activated following a request for medical assistance from the agent of the bulk carrier, lying at anchorage 6 nautical miles off-shore of Port Elizabeth, requiring medical assistance for a 47 year old Burmese sailor suffering chest and stomach pains suspected to be sustained from a chemical vapour inhalation injury, believed to be hydrochloric acid inhalation. The ship's last Port of call was Durban and she had sailed originally from Spain and now at anchorage waiting to enter the Port of Port Elizabeth. The NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew launchedthe "Spirit of Toft" accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS paramedic, and responded. On arrival on-scene the patient, walking wounded, was treated and stabilised by the EMS paramedic and transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought to shore where an EMS ambulance has transported the patient to hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
COSCO announces delivery of bulk carrier “PORTO LEONE"
COSCO Corporation (Singapore) Limited announces that COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co., Ltd , a subsidiary of the company's 51% owned COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd, has delivered a bulk carrier of 64000DWT, “PORTO LEONE” to European buyer LOMAR, the company said in its press release. The delivery documents were signed by and between COSCO Zhoushan and the buyer recently. The bulk carrier measure 199.9 meters in LOA (length of all), 32.26 meters in breadth and 18.5 meters in depth.
