Jade refloated and towed to Jöhnk Yard
On Mar 9 at 8 a.m. the "Jade" was refloated from the Elbe shore at Blankenese. At 8.20 a.m. it was pulled by the port tugs "Löwe" and "Stubbenhuk" to Harburg where it was docked at the Jöhnk Yard aroudn 10 a.m. The water police escorted the convoy towards the Southern Elbe. The breach was filled with 12 cbm concrete on Mar 8. The same afternoon a test whether the ship would float had been carried out with a satisfactory result. Divers surveyed the hull, and then the ship was grounded again until the next flood. Salvor Carsten Beese who had been contracted by the BKS Binnenschiffahrtskontor Sommerfeld in Buxtehude spoke of an optimal recovery, everything went well. He had planned and carried out the recovery jointly with the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) a.o. The damage was estimated to be around 800.000 Euro, but only in drydock it would become clearer whether the ship would be worth repairing. Meanwhile the investigations against the master and the pilot of the "Wilson Fedje" were continued. They were suspected to have caused the collision by entering the northern fairway in which the "Jade" was approaching. Barge to be taken to company owned yard after leak is closed
The "Jade" will be salvaged on Mar 8 on the earliest. The first mentioned date with the flood at 8.41 p.m. on Mar 7 was thought to be too early according to the owner, the BKS Binnenschiffahrtskontor from Buxtehude. On Mar 6 a part of the 1100 tons soy was lightered, and workers were busy welding the leak since. The hull is thought to have been bent. Whether a repair would be possible, Surveys in the yard will have to show. Once the "Jade" was pulled off the beach it was to be towed into the Sea Port 1 in Harburg before being moved through the lock to the Jöhnk Yard for repairs. In the run of Mar 7 new breaches occurred at the leak due to movements of the ship which will first have to be patched now. Barge to be lightered
The soy aboard the German flagged, self propelled barge “Jade”, 1408 ts (EU-No.: 04012840), which was grounded on the northern Elbe shore following the collision with the “Wilson Fedje” was to be lightered by a dredger ship on Mar 6. Then the breach was to be welded with a large steel plate so that the vessel could be floated off and pulled to the Jöhnk Yard in Hamburg-Harburg. The damage was estimated to be at least around 500000 Euro. Regarding the "Wilson Fedje", the prosecutor launched an investigation against the pilot and the master. According to the police the accident happened because of human error. It was thought the "Wilson Fedje" was much too far in the northern fairway. The master had to pay a safety deposit of 8000 Euro. The vessel was due to leave Hamburg bound for Herøya in the evening of Mar 6.
