Switchboard damaged by contractor
Sailings on the 'Island Discovery' between Powell River and Texada Island have been cancelled due to mechanical issues on July 15, 2020. The switchboard was accidentally damaged while a contractor was working on board. The ferry was towed by tugs and docked at Saltery Bay for repairs. A replacement part was currently en route and will be installed on the ferry upon arrival. As the ferry was under warranty, the contractor was responsible for the replacement of the part.
Hybrid ferry broke down
All sailings of the 'Island Discovery' have been cancelled due to mechanical issues on July 15, 2020. The ferry, which travels between Powell River and Texada Island, has been pulled from service as BC Ferries carried out repairs. The ship was facing problems with the cooling system of its main switchboard. Alternate sailings were being provided on the 'Salish Eagle' as it continues to run its regular route. A 3:25 p.m. sailing departing from Little River in Comox stopped at Blubber Bay on Texada Island while it makes its way to the Westview Terminal in Powell River. A 5:15 p.m. sailing departing from Westview Terminal stopped in Blubber Bay in the evening while en route to Little River. A water taxi service was also available for foot passengers from the public dock near the Westview Terminal and Van Anda.
