Changes of schedule due to ice problems
Due to ice problems the Royal Arctic Line had to alter its timetables, with the "Mary Arctica" only sailing to Nuuk and Sisimiut and the feeder ship "Irena Arctica" to Aasiaat, as it still must call at Ilulissat and try to get to Qasigiannguit. The ice between Sisimiut and Aasiaat may cause problems and delays . The "Mary Arctica" after the arrival in Sisimiut and Nuuk was to take over the feeder vessel's intended call at Nuuk on the way to Aalborg which gives the "Irena Arctica" more time to reach the ports of Disko Bay. Royal Arctic Line hoped that the changes make it possible to enter Aasiaat, Ilulissat and Qasigiannguit.
Engine trouble and storm changed itinerary
On Oct 13, 2014, the "Irena Arctica" suffered Problems with the engine and had to return to Nuuk. After repairs, the ship proceeded to Maniitsoq, but because of bad weather it was impossible to enter the port, so the ship was sent further north, where was to call at Ilulissat and Qasigiannguit.
Irena Arctica passed trials after engine repair
Late on Nov 21 the engine of the "Irena Arctica" was assembled again, after having repaired the damage. The ship sailed from Aalborg on Nov 22 at 04:00 a.m. following additional testings and trials. The technicians went ashore in Skagen, and the "Irena Arctica could then continue its voyage towards Greenland, where the first call in Tasiilaq was expected to take place on Nov 27 at 07.00 a.m., before the ship continues to Nuuk, Sisimiut and Aasiaat.
