Barge allided with dam on the Hunte

Sun Nov 24 23:07:08 CET 2013 Timsen

In the night of Nov 24, 2013, the "Itasca" allided with a leading dam at the railway bridge in Elsfleth-Ohrt. The ship was coming from Brake when it hit the middle leading dam with its port side. The ship veered to starboard due to the Impact and next ran into the northern dam which was damaged and partially destroyed on a lenght of 25 meters. Also several pilings suffered damage. The damage was estimated to be around 100.000 Euro. The water police Brake sent the patrol boat "W 4" for investigations, the vessel docked in Oldenburg. It had suffered only slight damage. The "Itasca" was carriyng parts of a wind plant and had sailed in the evening though it was not permitted to be sailing past 10 p.m. The vessel was detained. A workboat of the traffic control "Bremen-Hunte-Traffic" secured the damaged parts on Nov 24, so that the northern passage of the bridge could be opened for ship traffic again.
