Ara Felixstowe waiting for repairs
The "Ara Felixstowe" is still waiting for repairs in the port of Harlingen after it had been taken in tow by the tug "Hunter" under assistance of the harbour tugs "Anita", "Jenny" and "Theo van Tuinman". The vessel had first suffered engine problems. They reported Den Helder Coastguard, that they were planning to drop anchor and make repairs to main engine off Terschelling. Disabled freighter pulled to Harlingen
On Apr 3 at 9.40 p.m. the "Ara Felixstowe" was berthed in the port of Harlingen pulled by the tug "Hunter". The master and an engineer had been back on board before to assist the salvors with their expertise regarding the cargo ship. Vessel adrift after fire in engine room
In the morning of Apr 3, 2012, a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Ara Felixstowe" which was enroute Brake-Southampton with a cargo of steel and went adrift off Terschelling. The crew of nine was safely evacuated. Two members of a salvor team have meanwhile boarded the ship and sealed off the engine room. The fire did not spread to the accomodation block. A KNRM-lifeboat and the emerrgeny tug "Ievoli Black" and the "Terschelling" of the Coast Guard attended. The vessel was to be towed to Harlingen after the situation was under control.
