Medevac off Newhaven
On June 14, 2013, the Newhaven Lifeboat was launched to take a crew member off the "Ilka" for medical attention. Volunteers were called at 1 p.m. and launched the Severn Class Lifeboat "David and Elizabeth Acland" which was travelling to Waterford when the captain contacted Solent Coastguard to report that one of his crew who was suffering with suspected shingles had deteriorated during the day and required urgent medical attention. The 56 year old crewman from the cargo ship was transferred to the lifeboat at 1.20 p.m. and treated by lifeboat crew at the station before being handed over to an ambulance, which took him to hospital for further treatment.
