Docker strike in Savona after deadly accident
A crew member who was on the deck of the "Ilektra" which was berthed in the port of Savona fell into the cargo hold and died on July 18, 2019. The Filipino had been painting the roof of the hold when he fell down least 20 meters and died instantly. He was pronounced dead on the spot. The ASL inspectors investigated the matter. While the police with the fire brigade and the coroner started surveys aboard the ship, the workers of the port of Savona have called out a 24 hours strike against "yet another death on work in port" on July 19. Crew member possibly died of malaria
A 40 year old Filipino crew member of the "Elektra", which was berthed in Swinoujscie, was taken to hospital in serious condition on May 20, 2018. He was taken to an intensive care unit, where doctors desperately tried to save his life, but failed after two resuscitations, and the sailor died. He was suffering from all symptoms of malaria, including high temperature, nausea, headaches, vomiting and profound sweat. Allegedly, he died from malaria, which he may have caught in Buchanan, Liberia, where the bulkcarrier had set sail on May 3. A second crew with similar symptoms was also taken to the hospital. All those who contacted the seaman, including all crew, were examined by a doctor. The ship may be put into quarantine in case that malaria in fact has been the case of the death.
