Ferry towed by Ikar sank off Texel
West of Texel the German Rhine ferry "Siebengebirge", 110 ts (EU-No.: ENI: 04808160), sank in the morning of Apr 30, 2017, while being pulled by the "Ikar", 171 gt (IMO: 6519302). The ferry had developed a list at 5.40 a.m. by unknown reasons. The KNRM deployed the "Jike Dijkstra" with an additional pump of the "Dorus Rijkers" and rushed to the ship. The tug meanwhile attempted to drag the ship towards the coast of Texel, but it capsized and foundered bottom up before much could be done. The convoy with the ferry had departed from Hoek van Holland and was destined to Finland. There was no crew aboard the sunken vessel. No one has been injured. The Dutch Coast Guard which deployed the offshore tug "Guardian" to the site warned shipping in the wreck area. Also the "Hurricane" of Noordgat was on site. From Terschelling Rijkswaterstaat sent the "Schuitengat" to lay out a wreck buoy west van Texel. The ferry had previously been carried by the "Wendy Dua" (MMSI: 244700808) from Königswinter to Rotterdam.
